BOLD x Kathy Ager

Kathy Ager is a Canadian-born oil painter based in Vancouver. Her detailed still-life paintings are heavily influenced by the 17th-Century Golden Age of Dutch and Spanish painting. Underpinning this incredible old-style approach is the introduction of cultural symbols that bring her art into the modern day, blending the old-world mastery of oil painting with a contemporary edge.
In February 2025, we dropped our landmark collaboration with Ager; a project months in the works, culminating in an original artwork commissioned by BOLD GOLF, along with a hand-painted 1 of 1 golf bag.
Original Artwork
At first glance, the piece evokes the grandeur of 17th-century still life painting—an opulent arrangement of fruit and flowers, poised in dramatic light. The carefully balanced arrangement leans precariously, as if on the verge of collapse. But as you explore, you’re met with subtle disruptions that hint to the spirit of the collaboration:
A spray can drips luminous yellow paint and a graffitied playing card sits among the scene, a nod to an inspiring force behind the brand: street art. A "Caddyshack" cassette tape unravels, paying homage to golf’s countercultural moments. Billiard balls and playing dice represent the unpredictability and spontaneity of the game. A budgie carrying a flaming golf tee in its mouth cements the artwork's dreamlike quality, merging tradition with disruption.
This piece was created by Kathy specifically for the collaboration with BOLD GOLF. It not only informed the design of the hand-painted golf bag but also set the tone for the entire collaboration, challenging conventional perceptions of golf culture.
The artwork was released as a limited edition print and crewneck on Wednesday, February 19th 2025.
1 of 1 Golf Bag
Faced with an all-white classic Sunday Bag as a blank canvas, Kathy Ager didn't hold back. Her signature dark, rich aesthetic clashes with the golf bag in a riot of colour and striking symbolism. Snakes, cigarettes and flowers fill the composition; the result is a first of its kind golf bag.
This fine grain Italian leather Sunday Bag was entirely hand-finished by Kathy Ager with acrylic leather paint. From an edition of 1, the exclusive piece is signed and dated by the artist and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
The Collaboration
By incorporating unexpected elements into a classical framework, Kathy Ager breathes new life into the sport’s visual language. We were proud to work with Ager on this project. Masterpieces shouldn’t be stuck in museums.
